Christchurch’s First Female Bus Driver – 8th January 1979
On 8 January 1979, the city’s first female bus driver drove her first shift on the streets of Christchurch. Kiwi women had begun to drive New Zealand buses as early as 1930 – in the face of much sexist opposition from their male counterparts. (Please note that the attached photo is not of New Zealand)
